Hope floats: the winter edition.
“The winter here’s cold, and bitter,
It’s chilled us to the bone.
We haven’t seen the sun for weeks, too long, too far from home.”
Sarah McLachlan (Full of Grace)
I am newly arrived in the land of ice and snow, just in time for winter.
I spent thirteen years in the rain, and I know that rainy winters can seem long.
I grew up here, in the snow, and I remember that snowy winters can seem longer still.
Maybe winter is hard on you?
Maybe it’s too long, too dark, too cold.
Maybe winter seems like something you have to make it through, a bitter stopover on the way from the bounty of autumn to the promise of spring.
I want this winter to be easier for you.
I want to add a bright spot, a sparkle, a blessing to your winter season.
If I have a superpower, it is this: I can find beauty & wonder & magic everywhere.
I want to use my superpower on winter.
This winter, I want to help you find the beauty in the cold & the dark & the snow.
This winter, I want to help you discover the sacred, the wonder-full, the magic.
This winter, I want to help you notice the blessings, the bounty, the richness.
I am offering a winter edition of hope floats just for you.
Starting January 1st and ending April 30th, on Mondays & Wednesdays, you’ll receive a note of inspiration from me.
The inspiration will include an image (the beauty in winter) along with some words (a quote, a writing prompt, something to consider, an idea, a story).
The essence: hope, possibility, wonder, beauty, magic, blessing & permission.
Just so you know.
This is not affirmations or forced positivity or “look on the bright side”.
If there is one thing I believe, it’s that what we really need is more permission + kindness + love.
This is just me, looking for the beauty in the cold & the dark & the snow for myself, and sharing it with you in the hope that it brings a sparkle of light to a season that can be hard for so many.
Won’t you join me for hope floats in winter?
I so hope you will.
I am picturing us walking down a cold & snowy path, candles in the snow lighting our way, as we witness the magic of winter together.
Cost: $22 $17 (Hope floats started on January 1st, but it goes through April 30th, so there will still be quite a bit of goodness.)
What might the emails look like?
They might look a little something like this:
There is magic everywhere, if we are awake to it.
Or like this:
A friend sent me a quote from Rilke for the winter solstice, and I wanted to share it with you. May you find warmth in darkness, as we welcome the return of the light.
“You darkness, that I come from,
I love you more than all the fires
that fence in the world,
for the fire makes
a circle of light for everyone,
and then no one outside learns of you.
But the darkness pulls in everything;
shapes and fires, animals and myself,
how easily it gathers them!-
powers and people-
and it is possible a great energy
is moving near me.
I have faith in nights.”
~ Rilke
Or like this:
“People are like snowflakes – uniquely beautiful because of the details.”
~ McCarthy & LaPorte, Style Statement
