blackberry wishes (or, a wish, a fruit, and trust)

can i share a secret wish? if i could wish to do anything in the world, and have it come true, i would want to collaborate with mary oliver on a book of poetry and pictures – to pair my photos with her poems. i can see this book in my head and it makes me so very happy.

it turns out that my favorite summer fruit is blackberries. i used to think i preferred blueberries but this summer has shown me otherwise. blackberries taste like summer and sunshine in a way that blueberries do not.

there will be no trust photo this week. i have not taken any photos in the past week or two. this doesn't feel like a pause; this feels like something is blocking me. so, i am trusting that the right thing to do – instead of forcing a photo – is to spend some time journaling in order to find out what is behind this. there is some form of resistance here; i can feel it.

if you want to share a secret (or not-so-secret) wish, or your favorite summer fruit, or anything else, i would love to hear it!

mmm…blackberry time…yummy! Funny, I use to think the strawberry was my berry, but turns out this summer it’s been the raspberry for me. ;o) I just LOVE the almost abstract quality of these photos, Elizabeth. And I LOVE your Mary Oliver collaboration idea! You should write to her… Seriously! You are wise to take a moment, to be, to question, move through the block…invite the block in even. I’ve been learning lately to invite what’s holds me back, to chat with the inner critic…It’s not pretty, but things do flow again eventually for the internal intervention… LOL! ;o) A secret wish…to have my mixed media art hanging in a gallery one day… Happy Weekend, my friend ((HUGS))

  2. i tasted a blackberry for the first time on saturday morning. i’ve eaten them plenty of times, but it was the first time that i really recognized and enjoyed “oh! that was a blackberry!” so sweet and delish.
my secret wish? i’m too shy to say today :)
    love you!

nothing quite like a fresh picked blackberry, all warmed by the sunshine or nice and dewy in the morning. It’s part of the reason I adore living in the Pacific Northwest. :) Also, I think your collaborative idea is fantastic! ~xo

  4. the blackberries grew everywhere in southern chile, where i grew up… there is something very untamed about them, yes: delicious and wild. like our spirits, including when our spirits don’t want to do something 😉
also? you and mary oliver? what a wonderful thought, that book.
    xo

The thought of this photo-illustrated poetry book has me smiling. Funny thing is blackberries always meant summer to me until the past two years. I think it is because I can’t seem to find blackberries these days but blueberries are eveywhere. Blackberries remind me of wild thickets filled with birdsong and dappled sunshine. xoxo

I really like that you are not forcing a photo. hugs.

@paulita: me too. it feels better than the alternative.
@stephanie: “wild thickets filled with birdsong and dappled sunshine”. i think you just made me love blackberries even more.
@heidi: delicious and wild indeed! it seems like they are always creeping back again, even when people cut them down. (though i think some of the blackberries here are an invasive species .. it’s still hard not to love them.)
    @sarah: i don’t think i’ve ever had a dewy one! clearly i don’t wake up early enough. 😉
@jen t: sending love to you and your secret wish.
@tracy: the writing is a good idea. maybe i will try. though i feel rather shy about it. i love raspberries too. and i love your secret wish! i can just see your pieces on a gallery wall – it makes me smile.

Magical abstracts. And – you know what they say about writing it down..putting it out there. It sets your dreams free to come true!! Maybe someday it will happen with Mary Oliver??

  9. Can you have more than one favorite? If so, here are my three biggies — cherries, blueberries and strawberries. Not necessarily in that order. Love the photos even if you are photographically stuck at the moment. Hope you’re unstuck soon.
