the color purple
as i scanned the wooden tables at the farm stand, looking for peaches, i saw two brown baskets full of plums. their color drew me in.
i picked a plum from the basket. it was firm, oval in size, smaller than the plums at the supermarket, cold to the touch, and wet from the rain. i looked at that reddish purple plum, and i found it more pleasing to my eye than the orange peaches & pumpkins, the red nectarines & tomatoes & peppers & apples, the green peppers & corn & butternut squashes, the yellow acorn squashes.
that was today.
last week, i looked at the reds – the tomatoes & apples, their color dulled a little by the bright sun – and i found them most pleasing.

When I first looked at the basket of plums, I thought they were blueberries. Then I read what you wrote and realized that they were much bigger than I first thought and indeed they were plums.
Without some sort of reference, I had thought the basket was much smaller than it really is, and hence it held berries and not plums.
Our eyes and brain can play tricks on us.
Indeed they can! I can only see them as plums, but I saw them at the market so I see the whole scene when I look at this photo.
*SIGH*… pure delight!! It is so exciting just now, it’s it–all the bounty of fruit and food at the markets…mmm… Like you, I like to just stop, pick up and wonder… :o) So nice to catch up with you after being offline a bit the latest days… Oh, and Happy Weimiversary to you & sweet Atlas!! :o) ((HUGS))
Thank you! I hope you enjoyed your time away. Wish I could wander a market with you and talk about all sorts of things.
