thank you, joseph campbell
i found this quote on the internet today and had to share. i both love and hate it.
love because – truth.
hate because – truth.
i want to see the whole path, not just the next step!
(and yes, i am very fond of book + movie spoilers.)

Do you read the last chapter of the book first?
Books allow that. Life does not. Perhaps the best you can do is have Atlas running down the road a little ahead of you.
Part of the joy of life is not knowing what is around the next turn — although it may not seem like joy at the time.
Not first. I read a few chapters and then, if I just can’t wait, I read the end.
Though, I am proud to say that I did NOT read the ending to the final Harry Potter book! I read it straight through. :))
I mostly agree with you about the unknown + joy. The times I don’t are when I am in worry or confusion, not when I am centered in myself, in love.
I love this quote, thanks for sharing. love your website too.
You’re so welome! Thank you for being here.
had i known where some of my paths lead
i wouldn’t have had the courage to begin.
maybe that’s the whole point of our not knowing of course.
and i have always read or watched a ‘spoiler’ if given the chance …
yet i know some people who become FURIOUS if they find out ahead of time.
interesting!
I don’t mind spoilers except I do not want to know the final sports score if I have recorded the game and am planning on watching it later. It completely ruins the game for me if I already know the final score.
Helen would get so annoyed when I looked things up! She said it spoiled everything. (But if it’s intense, I have to, or else I can’t watch it at all. I am sensitive to some things and I am totally ok with that.)
“had i known where some of my paths lead
i wouldn’t have had the courage to begin.”
Oh, my, yes. Yes, yes, yes to this.
Yes, indeed, we so often want that assurance that we’re on the right path. I am learning to live more comfortable with uncertainty–but only some moments. You reminded me of reading Joseph Campbell years ago and really resonating with him.
I hear you. Thank you for sharing this.
Now you’ve got me thinking that I really should read Joseph Campbell. Strangely, enough, I never have, but I resonate with every quote of his I see, so I really should.
