my eyes are opened

this swamp is right in front of my parents’ house. i looked at it multiple times a day, every single day i was home, from the summer before third grade until the summer after college. (that’s fourteen years, give or take. i subtracted a year for a semester abroad + a summer internship + a fall co-op assignment.)

last year, i noticed that the swamp has layers of green and gold in autumn. it’s so beautiful! all those years spent across from it. how did i miss this?

it makes me wonder what else i’m not noticing. because i suspect the essence of this is true of everything.

  1. no…
i somehow cannot think you’ve ever missed anything regarding nature and beauty.
you might not remember particular times you thought about it…
but your last post and this one and ALL the ones you do… pretty much make the case.
yup. i’m thinking you’re wrong about this.
    LOLOL.
    XOXO♥
    you’re a bonafide observer.

Mmmm. Thank you. I am receiving your words with grace. I do think my eyes have grown very attuned to the beauty + changes in nature.

I was thinking along the lines of people. Wondering what it might be like if I saw everyone familiar to me as if for the first time. Because I do think we stop noticing people and take past behavior and use it for future assumptions (and and and).

  2. I quite agree with Tammy… ;o) I think you have a special gift for seeing things, Elizabeth. But I do think maybe what we notice and how we notice it can change with age. I think with age our sense of sight deepens, as we take more time to notice things. When we’re young, we’re flapping around all over the place, seeing everything at once… LOL… One of the things I appreciate about growing older is this sense of extra sight. Maybe you feel that way too? ((HUGS))

I know! I think last year was the first year I noticed its beauty, or maybe the year before? When I came back from Spain in 2012 I had a new appreciation for the UP:)
